Why We're Raising Funds
ARISEHigh School is a small charter school in Oakland, California. Due torecent cutbacks in the California state budget -- as well as thefinancial constraints that are typical for new charter schools -- we donot currently have enough funds to pay for scientific equipment for ourstudents' biology and physics classes. (California now spends less on education, per student, than any other state in the U.S., and our operating costs are among the highest in the country.)
Thanks to support frompeople like you, we raised over $1000 to buy biology supplies for theFall 2008 semester. Now we are making plans for the Spring 2009 physicscourse, and we need your help once again. Your donations will go to buythe equipment needed to teach our students about how the universe isput together, how matter and energy work with each other, and how wecan conserve energy in an increasingly "wired" society. We are also hoping to use the funds collected to take our students to Paramount's Great America for the annual Physics Day event, where they will be able to see the principles of physics in action in a fun and exciting way.
